The History of Policing in North Essex

www.thecamplingfiles.co.uk explores the history of policing in the north of Essex.

The database organises three main record sets. Firstly, the incidents details, which are transcribed from the British Newspaper Archives. The author regularly contributes corrections to the scanned copy. Once corrected, the text is pasted into the incident record. Secondly, the record-of-service for the officers involved in each incident are researched from the Essex Police Museum archive. The officer record is linked to the incident details so incidents and officers can be cross-referenced. Finally, there is a separate record set for the historical police stations which gives the reader an idea of the environment in which police officers worked and an indication of the type of estate managed by Essex Police in history.

The database is built on MaraDB with PhP and MySQL hosted at www.mythic-beasts.com. The site is developed using Drupal CMS.
