Fire in 1900

Fire in 1900

From the Illustrated London News, May 26th 1900. The photograph shows the severity of the damage to the auditorium, seen from the stagehouse. In the foreground, the intensity of the fire has destroyed the stage and buckled the supporting girders. Perhaps the sole onlooker is Mr Barnard, the proprietor of the theatre, the new and most majestic entertainment palace in the High Street at the time.
